Falling off the bed is such an unfortunate accident that almost every parent has to face. However, when it comes to a baby, things can get complicated because they don’t know how to express their pain. For parents, seeing their infant crying of pain is a dreadful experience. In such a situation, due to the lack of experience, it becomes more difficult for parents to understand whether they should see a doctor immediately or not. In this article, we will tell you about what you should do when baby falls off the bed.

Which is the first thing you should be doing if your baby falls out of bed

1When you see symptoms like bleeding, drowsiness or fainting

If this happens, then the first thing you should do before lifting him up is – a closer look at his current condition because a little mishandling may worsen his condition. If you see symptoms like pain, bleeding, drowsiness or unconsciousness in your child, then ask for an immediate medical assistance.

2When you don’t see symptoms like bleeding, drowsiness or fainting

If there are no signs of injury, you can lift him up easily and try to calm him down. There is a very strong possibility that your child will be very scared and agitated after falling from the bed. Try to calm him down as much as possible and while doing so, look carefully at the potential injuries.

3Symptoms are not shown initially

In many cases, it is seen that a child shows no sign of any problem right after the incident. But, with the passage of time, you may witness a few symptoms. So you should look at these signs carefully.

Do a closer look and check if there is any serious head-on contusion. As I said earlier, it is not mandatory that the injuries suffered by the baby should show symptoms from the beginning. According to the experts, if any head injuries remain unattended for a longer period, it can prove to be dangerous.

For your information, a serious headache can also lead to brain damage and this type of injury is not easy visible. However, should you see any of the following sign, dare not to overlook.

  1. You will see a sudden change in his eating habits.
  2. You will see all sorts of changes related to his sleep. For example, he is sleepier and sleeps longer.
  3. You can expect more crying in certain positions.
  4. You will also notice that he will now cry more often than before.
  5. He will now be more irritable than ever and you won’t be able to do anything.

In extreme cases, a severe headache can lead to delay in the development of the child. For example, in a 6-month child, you will not see any signs of a child of 6 months.

4When baby stays stable at one place

In many cases, children may also get a fracture after falling off the bed. For example, the most common can be clavicular fractures (fracture between the shoulders and neck), but also those of the arms or legs.

If you see that your child is very upset after accident, or not able to sit in a particular position, it is very likely to be a fracture.

At the same time, any change in his regular movements can also be caused by head injuries. If you feel that there is neck or colon fracture, do not shake or move the child unless you have a medical expert around you.

5Do not ignore any change in the child’s ability to see

After falling off the bed, the child may not only experience severe headaches, but eyes related disorders, as well. If this happens, watch out for these symptoms –

  1. Baby’s pupils are no longer the usual size.
  2. The baby does not seem to see. In case, you put a toy in front of him, he won’t react.
  3. Eyes seem to move in the crucible or move quickly from one side to the other.

If you see any such sign, contact the doctor immediately.

6See if the child has bruises or wounds

Any such incidents can lead to bleeding wounds, especially if the baby will also hit any object on the floor.

In this situation, first of all, you have to see if you can control your bleeding without any difficulty. If the wound is not too deep, then you can clean it with detoxification or disinfection and apply patches. But if the wound is very deep, then you should see a doctor immediately.

In which situation you should call emergency

It is not necessary that you should go to the doctor only after having any specific signs like unconsciousness or bleeding. Sometimes a minor injury can become a serious one. In this case, if your child falls off the bed and you see any of the signs given below, you must not delay seeing a doctor:

  1. Your baby is restless.
  2. Shake his head repeatedly.
  3. The injury marks does not disappear but, on the contrary, gets worse.
  4. The baby is lying too much.
  5. You notice the existence of a yellowish liquid or traces of blood, drains from his nose or ears.
  6. Pupils are not of the ordinary size.
  7. Become more sensitive to light and/or noises.
