In the fifth month, get ready to see your baby sitting for a few seconds without any support. You will be seeing your baby rolling from one side to the other.

In the fifth month, as your baby is increasingly active now, you need to be very careful, and you are not supposed to leave him unattended. There is a risk of falling from the bed. You can expect your baby to crawl and try to grab things better like holding his own bottle. Towards the end of the fifth month, many of infants can turn from side to side. Some managed to return back on the belly. Let us talk about health and development of 5 month’s baby.

Physical Development

In the fifth month, your baby will develop the ability to utter some sounds. You can expect to hear the words that you always dreamed like “mother” and “father”. However, the baby is too small to speak these words properly. You have to wait several months before you turn those words intentionally.

By this month, you will see your baby playing with his hands and feet. You may notice that it is unusual silence in the bedroom and you will find that your baby that needed attention before, is now having a non-stop fun alone by his own.

Unlike last month, in this month, your baby can see at different distances and he can focus on an object. Now, your baby knows the difference between colors and even between two different shades of the same color. He still prefer primary colors, i.e. (red, yellow and blue).

In fifth month, babies like to hear a variety of sounds. For that, you do not need special toys or tools, but you can simply make those sound by your own. You can whistle or imitate different animals.

According to WHO, at the age of 5 months, an average weight of boy weighs between 6.1 – 9.2 kg, while a girl will record slightly less, between 5.5 – 8.7 kg.

According to WHO, a boy of 5 months will measure around 61.9 – 69.9 cm, while the height of girls the same age will be between 59.9 cm – 68.2 cm.

1Sleep

Because of his activeness, your baby will need more rest. Therefore, an alteration in his sleeping pattern is nothing abnormal.

Most babies sleep through the night, but not all. If your baby does not sleep all night, tried to set a bedtime routine.

Start with a warm bath, then a gentle massage, a story, a song, turn off the light and stay with it until they begin being closed eyes sleep. If you do it at the same times, will get used and will be able to quickly understand the concept of day and night.

2Communication

Although weeping remains the most powerful form of communication for your baby, but, by the 5th month, you can expect your baby to develop his own ways for expressing his emotions. He begins to laugh at pleasant surprises, such as your face appearing from under a blanket or a toy out of a box. Make sure whatever you are doing is not scaring your baby.

Starting this month, the baby will react and respond on hearing a familiar sound. In the fifth month, you will notice that the baby has already begun to murmur and a few times, he may even resemble real words. By this time, you can expect your kid to repeat certain words like “ma-ma,” “da-da”, “ta-ta”, after you.

At this month, you can expect him to learn what each item is. When you give a toy tell him, “This is a dog” or “This is a doll” or “This is a car” and help them remember them by associating the objects with different sounds. For example, if you show or give it a toy dog, tell and how do dog “ham-ham”. This will easily learn new words faster and make associations between what he sees and the sound of the name object.

3Tips for Parents

  • Babies love music, so try to put them different kinds of music genres, from classical to modern music and songs for children, and they will reward you with a smile or a clap.
  • Drugs or substances must be at an appropriate distance from the baby or you can even raise them to a level where the baby cannot reach.
  • Do not leave hot cups of tea or boiling water in places that could be drawn down by the child.
  • In summer, avoid prolonged exposure to the sun. If you are taking your baby out, make sure you had covered his hands, feet and a hat on his head. Use a car seat when traveling with your baby.
  • Do not forget about the required vaccination.

Although, it is believed that one should not start solids food until age 6 months. But, according to the specifics of each baby (weight, height, growth), it is your pediatrician who can recommend you a shift in your baby’s diet.

Do not introduce any change in diet without your pediatrician’s advice.
